Newspaper Circulation Slips Again

October 27, 2009: The Audit Bureau of Circulations reports that the average weekday circulation for the nearly 400 daily papers that reported their sales was down by 10.6 percent over the April-September period. The Los Angeles Times reports that ABC says the decline was larger than the 7.1 percent dropoff reported in the previous six months.
The Wall Street Journal saw a 0.6 percent gain in subscribers, moving it to over 2 million subscribers and ahead of the USA Today as the largest national daily. The New York Times' circulation was down 7.3 percent, to 927,851, and the Los Angeles Times declined 11.1 percent, to 657,467. The Washington Post was in fifth place, down 6.4 percent, to 582,844.
