CBS To Launch Last.fm As HD, Online Station

September 11, 2009: CBS Interactive Music Group is putting Last.fm on the air, as a new HD Radio subchannel on stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco. The new station, based on the music-discovery website, will also be streamed online beginning Monday, October 5. CBS Interactive Music Group Digital Content Manager Seth Neiman will handle programming, and, CBS said, the station's music will be "aggregated and influenced" by Last.fm's weekly charts.
The station's flagship program, Last.fm Discovers, will be hosted by Sat Bisla, with artist interviews and performances. HD subchannels for AC WWFS/New York, Adult Hits KCBS/Los Angeles, Rock WXRT/Chicago, and Alternative KITS/San Francisco will be airing the Last.fm channel.
"Last.fm's newest initiative is a novel way for the CBS Interactive Music Group to exercise its radio programming knowledge with a fresh and innovative approach," said CBS Interactive Music Group President David Goodman. "Last.fm has a large and loyal following both here and abroad, and we're thrilled to be taking this step to expose additional listeners to the world class service. Millions of people have helped create one of the best music discovery sites out there, and the information they provide us about their listening preferences will be at the core of everything we do on this new station. Additionally, we believe this is exactly the type of programming that will help bring new listeners to the HD multicast frontier."
