Hughes Receives Humanitarian Award

August 13, 2009: Radio One founder and Chairperson Cathy Hughes was among four recipients of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity's Humanitarian Award at the group's convention earlier this month.

The award presentation was held August 4 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. The other Humanitarian Award recipients were President Obama, Sen. Mary Landrieu, and Dr. Ian Smith.

At the event, Hughes thanked the fraternity for its ongoing support of the Piney Woods School in Piney Woods, MS, which received a million-dollar donation from the group. She credited much of the success to the Kappa men whom she "had been blessed to have in her life."
