Genachowski Adds Defense Duties
WASHINGTON -- July 23, 2009: FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski adds a new post, as Defense Commissioner, directing the homeland security, national security, and emergency-preparedness activities of the commission." Genachowski will represent the FCC in interagency matters pertaining to those issues, and will be the FCC's main point of contact on matter related to the Department of Homeland Security.
The new FCC Chairman will also serve on the Joint Telecommunications Resources Board.
Commissioner Michael Copps will serve as Alternate Defense Commissioner, in a one-year appointment.
