Radio HOF Names Nominees, Voting Opens

CHICAGO -- June 25, 2009: The National Radio Hall of Fame has named its nominees for induction in 2009.
The nominees in the National - Pioneer category are radio ad pioneer and voice actor Dick Orkin; Dr. Demento, the comedy show created by Barret Hansen in the '70s; CBS Radio's Suspense, a mystery show that ran for more than 20 years; and original country music show WLS Barn Dance.
The Local or Regional -- Pioneer nominees are longtime WLW/Cincinnati personality Gary Burbank; Los Angeles radio personality, station owner, and record producer and Killer Oldies host Art Laboe; longtime WMAL/Washington personality and WAMU Big Broadcast host Ed Walker; and Van Miller, who called games for the Buffalo Bills from 1960-71 and 1977-2003.
In the Local or Regional -- Active category, the nominees are Terri Hemmert, the first female morning drive personality on WXRT/Chicago; Hawaiian radio legend Tom Moffatt; talk host Neil Rogers, who just left his longtime on-air slot at WQAM/Miami; and New York-based talk host Wendy Williams.
For National -- Active, the 2009 nominees are the nationally syndicated Neal Boortz; Citadel Media Networks' MoneyTalk with Bob Brinker; WOR Radio Network's Joey Reynolds; and Public Radio International's This American Life, hosted by Ira Glass.
The National Radio Hall of Fame earlier named its 2009 posthumous inductees: Puerto Rico radio legend Jose Miguel Agrelot, longtime Phillies play-by-play announcer Harry Kalas, and author and radio personality Studs Terkel.
