FCC Denies License Renewal For TX Station
WASHINGTON -- June 22, 2009: The FCC has dismissed Terry Keith Hammond's application to renew the license of KBKH-FM/Shamrock, TX, saying his felony conviction means he doesn't meet the character requirement to remain an FCC licensee.
The commission held a hearing on whether to renew or revoke the license back in 2006. Hammond's application was designated for hearing at that time, with that hearing also set to determine whether the FCC should fine Hammond for failing to comply with the terms of his license and for breaking commission rules.
In its June 22 order, the FCC says Hammond's 2004 felony conviction for theft, as well as other occasions on which he "has demonstrated a propensity to ignore or evade lawful requirements prescribed by statute and commission rules" -- including operating at least one pirate station -- make him unqualified to hold an FCC license.
Hammond's license-renewal application has been dismissed because he didn't file a timely written appearance, but the FCC says if the application had not been dismissed, it would have revoked the license in any event. The FCC also says its actions are "sufficient sanction," and it won't impose any monetary forfeiture on Hammond.

(9/12/2009 2:42:20 AM) I used to live in Shamrock and I know how corrupt and twisted that town really is. I left several years ago and when I go back to visit family and friends (which is rare) I get a stomach ache just crossing in to Wheeler County. I truly believe that what happened to Mr. Hammond was completely wrong and unfair. I know what the others that were involved are capable of first hand. Been there. I just wish more people in Shamrock would stand up for they know is right and just. Things will never change otherwise. Always remember karma. |
