WPYO/Orlando's Roman Killed In Traffic Accident

ORLANDO -- May 4, 2009: Cox Radio Rhythmic WPYO (Power 95.3)/Orlando is mourning the loss of Erika Roman, who was killed in an accident on the Florida Turnpike on Friday.

Power 95.3 morning host Roman, 31, reportedly swerved to avoid a boat lounge chair in the roadway while on her way to visit family in Miami. Her 2007 Sentra rolled, traveling 50-65 feet and landing upside down in a drainage ditch. A state trooper and other motorists pulled Roman from the car, but were unable to revive her.

A message on WPYO's website reads, "Erika was a wonderful, passionate, and caring person. She will be missed greatly by all of her friends and family." A wake has been scheduled for Thursday at Roberts Funeral Home in Ocala. There may also be a memorial by the station.

Florida's WOFL-TV Fox 35 reports that authorities are trying to determine who is responsible for the chair's being left on the highway. Charges to be filed may include failure to secure a load, or other charges to be determined when and if the person responsible is identified.

All of us at Radio Ink extend our condolences to Roman's family, friends, and colleagues.
